The Ludgate Hub is a not for profit initiative which was established in October 2014 and aims to create an entrepreneurial ecosystem in the Skibbereen and West Cork Region. The Ludgate Hub initiative aims to facilitate the creation of 500 jobs and 1000 indirect jobs by 2020. On full implementation of objectives and targets we that estimate a positive impact of €34m in GDP for the West Cork region. The initiative has been developed by a board consisting of entrepreneurs, digital ambassadors and industry leaders whom and have a routed connection in the Skibbereen area and have donated their time to the initiative on a voluntary basis.

The Ludgate Hub team have created a digital strategy for the area which aims to bridge the rural-urban divide by giving back to rural communities which have been adversely affected by unemployment and emigration. The goal of the group involved in developing the Ludgate Hub is to create a digitally enabled rural society in which innovators can create and expand their businesses in rural Ireland whilst competing on a global scale.

The Ludgate hub is the first of its kind in a non-urban area and the digital connectivity in the building provides an uncontested 1000MB connection. The hub is fully operational and has over 30 people signed up and working from the premises and has had significant international interest from the United States, United Kingdom and South Africa, with the first international clients locating from the United States to Skibbereen in September 2016.

The Ludgate Hub aims to put Skibbereen on the map as a beacon of innovation and to provide start-ups with the environment and mentoring support required to research and commercialise opportunities to compete on a global scale and will act as a blue print for other rural towns to attract and retain talent in communities and to rebrand all of rural Ireland as a hub of innovation.
